Victoria’s Secret 2016 Show

The Victoria’s Secret 2016 Show is one of the most highly anticipated spectacles in the industry, not least for the killer line up of angels but also for the self-empowering and ultra sexy lingerie on offer.

This year saw the angels take to the stage for the first time in Paris, in the grandiose location of the Grand Palais. Alongside the usual suspects of Gigi Hadid, Adrianna Lima and Kendall Jenner, the world over tuned in on 5th December to watch Bella Hadid put on her wings for the first time! Our nerves were as wrecked as hers must have been, willing her on and feeling her pain at the same time. Not only was this Bella’s first walk as a Victoria’s Secret Angel but it was also her first time seeing The Weeknd (who performed as the models walked the runway) since they announced their split. Bella may be an elite top model but in the end, she’s just a girl with boy problems like the rest of us mere mortals. Like the star she is, she carried herself with grace and dignity, declaring on social media afterward that The Weekend performed superbly and that it was an honor to walk not only for VS. but to his soundtrack also.  What a pro!

With 52 girls in total and 18 new faces, it is the largest line-up of models to date and the Marie Antoinette theme was more than perfect. In the short teaser film released before the show, the models were seen in lavish surroundings with Victorian masks, glittery tulle skirts, and horse-drawn carriages, sufficiently setting the scene before the big reveal.

Irina Shayik stunned the crowd as she strutted her stuff down the runway, revealing as publicly as you can that she is indeed pregnant! Still looking better than most on a good day, Irina was glowing and somehow managed to blend her baby bump seamlessly into the show.

Made up of 9,000 precious gemstones, it was Jasmine Tookes who was given the honor of wearing the fantasy bra this year. Designed by Eddie Borgo, the coveted piece is worth $3 million dollars!

Finally, almost as much attention was paid to what the models wore to the after party, with the “naked dress” being the style of choice for many. Each dress left little to the imagination with cut-outs, sheer panels and cleverly patterned lace donning every inch of the highly revealing, eye-catching dresses. Ironically, bras were not an option for many of these dresses.  Some things at the Victoria’s Secret 2016 Show remain sacred!
